Alright! First attempt at sewing the Batgirl costume will be tomorrow!

I have to pick up some more velux (I don’t have as much as I thought I did) to make the purple parts have their ridge detail, and some not-serger-thread for the actually sewing part. Oh, and some yellow material for the thigh band as unlike with the utility belt, I don’t conveniently have pouches of the right size and shape laying around the house.

I’m glad I bought extra material because I’m kind of terrified.

(also I think I need to redo the cape, but we’ll see once I have things straightened out)

Okay it’s quarter after three.

If I hadn’t screwed up her wrist things, Black Widow would totally be… 85% done.

Sadly I mucked up, and it’s not something that an over night costume binge can fix. So I am going to slee while considering the possibilities.

I do really like my S.H.I.E.L.D jacket. So there’s that.

So Vriska’s wings are, as I mentioned to a few people last night, not going to be finished in time for Otafest. I’ve still got to find out what day Amanda and I are doing Loki and Thor, but I have options for the other day…

obviously I have watched the Avengers too many times. But this is a thing I am considering. I’ll have to finish Thor first but… so tempted…

unless magic happens in the next three days, I’m not going to have this lance finished for CCEE. (yeah right)

I’ll just have to settle for the cigarette holder by itself.

in other news, my supplier finally got back to me in regards to that wig they don’t make any more and they’ll be sending out the “similar” one instead. Crossing my fingers that everything arrives in the next week because that order also has the wonderflex for the latest attempt to build Vriska’s wings. I’m cutting it pretty close, but on the upside my only problem is actually making the frame light enough for the motor to move it, but sturdy enough to hold up the whole structure.

Spent a chunk of my day thinking about Vriska’s wings again

So apparently that order of resin I was waiting for isn’t going to show up on account of it never went through. I put it in when my email (and then my computer) was fritzing, so I just assumed it went through and would show up on my statement.

Got my statement. No resin anywhere on it, so a check with the website and— nothing. My order history is all blankity blank. This is unfortunate. I’m going to swing by PMS Hobbycraft sometime this week to see if they’ve got their stock in, but according to the website they’re still half out. 

Either way, it looks like I might have to figure out a new method of making these wings, because I’m not sure how sturdy the resin frame would actually be. I’ll still be making the horns from resin, but… yeah. I might have actually found a use for my aluminium flashing. I originally bought it to back Pi’s leg armor, but that rebuild has been put on hold for a number of years now, so this is as good as anything.

But if I use the aluminium flashing I’m almost certain that I’m not going to be able to use the motor I have to move the wings. Gotta see if I can find a larger, more powerful motor.

Cosplay Progress update! 

So these are the unfinished masters for Vriska’s wing frame, Sollux & Feferi/Meenah’s horns, and a set of teeny tiny Tavros horns for one of my dolls. Vriska’s horns are on another board in my living room, but they’ll be getting a foamed too.

I’m adapting my normal armor making process to making horns and the frame, so I’m crossing my fingers that this is even going to work. I’ll be spraying the forms down with expanding insulation foam and then carving them into the right shapes. Because this particular brand is known for sealing the can shut after use I needed to wait until I had a lot of things to spray so there’s lots to do today.
