alrightie, proof of concept is… sorta working now that it’s in metal. Problem is that the screws are too long (they’re only 1/4”!) and everything is wobbly. I’m thinking about putting in some washers to snug everything up.  The only other step I have before the flapping mechanism is complete is to connect the motor and power source. It’s going to stick out from my back a bit but I’m willing to accept that because flapping wings.  hahaha these wings are gonna be killer.

I also put in an order for 6 yards of turquoise mirror organza and 20 feet of sparkle fibre today. In a couple weeks I’ll be able to put together the actual wings! You have no idea how excited this makes me. Flapping sparkling wings! This is what I imagine having a childhood wish fulfilled feels like. Man, I should ask mom if I ever wanted sparkly wings as a kid.

As a side note, I chose the mirror organza over cellophane because of the LEDs that are going to be used to light the sparkle fibre. While heat/energy output of LEDs is low, it’s not nonexistent and I’d prefer it if my back didn’t go up in flames, no matter how cool it would look. The organza is a bit less melty ;p
