manly-carrot:
so I have a little 8 year old brother who has wanted to go to this for ever and he is super excited about going.
I, however, am slightly worried
This is my first year going to CCEE as well and i have been reading a lot about people being verbally attacked and physically assulted becuase of the cosplays they are wearing
(now i have only gotten reports from america, i hope we are much nicer up here)
just, my brother really wants to cosplay dave strider from homestuck, and since i know some of the homestuck fandom arn’t the best people (i swear its just a really stupid, really small percentage) i am very worried that someone is going to do something to hurt him
he is only 8 but i still have my fears for him
so i would just like to know that there will be some people there that can tell me that CCEE is better than that
i just want to make sure he has a great time, what kind of big sister would i be if i failed him?
He should be fine.
In my experience, everyone under the age of about 12 has an automatic pass when it comes to costumes/cosplay. They’re just too darned cute for people to get fussy about inaccuracies. (No seriously, I know someone who is perfectly willing to rip someone to shreds over inaccuracies but if those inaccuracies are on a kid she just melts and coos and flails all over the place)
The folks who go to CCEE tend to be pretty laid back; way more than the kids that hit up Otafest or Animethon. This probably has to do with the general age group— CCEE’s attendees tend to be the late teens to early eighties, while Otafest/Animethon tends to run the 10-20 year old crowd.
Not to say that the folks going to CCEE are any more mature or anything. Because they’re not. But I think I lost my train of thought here.
Anyways. the bite size Dave Strider will be welcomed by one and all, I’m sure.
Except those people who hate Homestuck, but he has the adorableness going for him and that is a mighty shield.
