A motion has been raised to make the Calgary Promstuck meet up a humanstuck only event, as we will be in a place open to the public and not everyone will be as accepting of gray skinned horned teens and adults running around as the internet is.
As always, my askbox is open (or you can reply to this post) so… questions? Comments? Concerns?
Went out last night to get a feel for what sorts of colors I could get in dress shirts and ties for Sollux.
Here’s a mock up of colors; I have the blue blazer and black dress pants already, but I might buy a different one, I dunno yet.
I like the red shirt blue tie best, but the purple shirt yellow tie (because that derse/prospit theme thing) comes in second. Thoughts?
Current Plans: Homestuck Prom
So I’m going to go by the lack of opinions to the contrary, and say that we are tentatively scheduled for Friday May 11th at Eau Claire Market.
I’m thinking a general meet-up time between 6 and 7pm, just based on my own time table: off work at 5, getting into costume, getting to Eau Claire either by transit or car, which would mean walking from the station to Eau Claire or finding parking… I’m sure we all know how both can be when it comes to city center/downtown.
Good question.
I’m sure more people are going to join in as time goes by and more learn of it, but now that I’ve got a general idea of interest, I guess I should answer it! I’ve been looking at event venues and the like to try and narrow down the possibilities of where; so far all I’ve done has been add to the list, but hey. We’ve got time.
Anyways, some of the ideas for possible locations:
- Crossiron or Chinook Theatre/Arcade
- That big empty area under Chinook/where the Bowladrome is
- Outside in a park— Nosehill, Confederation, Fish Creek, Prince’s Island, etc
- Eau Claire Market
- University of Calgary
I briefly considered nightclubs and bars, but then I remembered that just because I can go into those places doesn’t mean everyone will be able to.
I’ve also looked into renting a community center… but $80-$100 per hour is a bit out of my range. I haven’t looked into hotel rooms yet, though I plan on checking that out tonight.
There is also the option of hosting it at someone’s house, but there are various complications with that. Things like allergies and phobias: I have a large overly friendly dog, for example.
Feel free to offer suggestions for other possible venues. I’ve lived my entire life in Calgary, but I certainly don’t know all the places to party ‘round here.
(I suppose I should mention that at the moment I’m personally leaning towards Eau Claire.)
Man I should be sleeping not sitting in bed with my iPod and checking out ideas for places to get together.

…just because we will be cosplaying a bunch of 13 & 16 year olds doesn’t mean we’ll get the rates for kids, does it?
Calgary Homestuck Prom meeting
Alright, the post re:organizing a meet up has been up for about five hours now.
Recap is that we have about eight people committed, three who have expressed interest but are “too shy”, a handful of likes that I am guess are indications that they’re coming??, and a couple of folks from other cities reblogging.
Also apparently there is a facebook group out there that may or may not be arranging something. I dunno much about that; facebook and I do not get along.
So I guess the next step is deciding date/time. And I should probably be posting this tomorrow evening instead of at 11:30pm, but whatever. I do what I want.
We’ve got a few options:
Thursday May 10th: the day before the official prom. This would be an evening event, presumably with some sort of cut-off time in the night on account of Friday classes and work schedules. Thursday would give us a chance to get together and have fun as a group, while also allowing us to play it up on tumblr for the actual prom.
Friday May 11th: the day of the prom. Another evening event, but this one would probably be able to go on a lot longer because weekend! As it would be the day of we could get together and set something up so that we can still mess around on tumblr with the rest of the prom goers, as well as having group party adventures.
Saturday May 12th: the day after the prom. I imagine this one would be more along the lines of an after party, picking up where the online events dropped off the night before. It also gives us the option of daylight shenanigans. What these shenanigans would be, I’m not sure, but there they could be.
So… thoughts, opinions, suggestions? What date would work best for you?

I’ve gone to a few events before (not for Homestuck , but cosplay in general) and they are a blast. This is the first time I’m organizing a meet up, so I’m pretty excited myself 🙂

man… first I was thinking about being Vriska for Homestuck Prom because I’m working on her wings right now, right?
and then Alpha Pisces showed up and I went oooooo those extensions I bought a couple months ago would work really well with that trashed wig I have…
