The whole cutie mark / sign choosing business- I’m not sure if I understand-

Okay, so in My Little Pony, the way that a pony gets their cutie mark, aka butt tattoo aka the symbol that essentially defines them, is that they are the very best at something. For example, Cupcake is really good at baking cupcakes. So her cutie mark/symbol is a cupcake. Snowcatcher, who is “really good” at catching snowflakes on her tongue, her cutie mark is a snowflake.

There are a chunk of fan trolls that seem to have had their symbols decided using the same method. And the mental image makes me gasp for breath I’m laughing so hard. Can you imagine? Gamzee’s symbol as a horn or sopor pie??
