ideal hogwarts students:

  • aromantic wizards being absolutely immune to amortentia, it only smelling like the ingredients put into it when they smell it, and teaching other students how to identify the stuff on any food or drink
  • gender confused ravenclaw leafing through glossarys of pronouns and accidentally getting 80% of the class to stay up leafing through similar glossarys, screaming out pronouns in the common room when they think they found one that may fit
  • slytherin students sometimes taking polyjuice potion to pose as one of their depressed members who was having a bad day and really couldn’t bring themselves to classes
  • kids who read about the second great wizarding war and, when reading about Severus Snape’s brave acts, argue “well yeah ok but he was kind of an asshole still?”

RUSSIA HAS DECLARED THAT THEY’RE INVADING UKRAINE OFFICIALLY. NOT EVEN HIDING BEHIND OLD AGREEMENTS. Britain has to aid the Ukrainians against the Russians now,  America warned Russia not to, with consequences if they did, so now they’re involved,  Canada was looking into what Russia was doing to see how bad it was and they to have to get involved even more.
WHAT PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND IS THAT IT COULD ACTUALLY DRASTICALLY ESCALTED INTO SOMETHING RESEMBLING A WORLD WAR.

1. Britain doesn’t have to do anything. The UN is currently meeting to discuss whether a) Russia has a right to invade Crimea, an autonomous region of Ukraine that has its own unique situation with Russia (and has been protesting to join Russia for weeks), and b) what steps to take in the case that they do not.

(Not to say that the situation in Crimea isn’t concerning, but don’t equate it with the entirety of Ukraine.)

2. Current options include: boycotting the G8 summit, removing Moscow from the Group of 8, and dropping out of FIFA in Sochi.

3. The UN and EU were formed specifically to prevent another world war- you’ll notice we haven’t had one since they were created. Ineffective as they seem, they do serve a purpose. That’s why we had a Cold War and not WWIII.

4. Putin isn’t actually a fucking moron; that’s why he’s so formidable. He’s not going to risk a war, and as I mentioned before, there’s a reason we didn’t enter one before. This will be a political battle of tensions and alliances, not actual warfare.

TL;DR

STOP SPREADING FEAR BASED ON LITTLE TO NO INFORMATION OR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE OH MY GOD I WILL EAT MY OWN FOOT
